Karnataka has approved a massive ₹2,350 crore project to build India’s second-largest cricket stadium in Bengaluru.
The 80,000-seat venue will be built on 75 acres in Anekal and will include facilities for multiple sports.
The Karnataka cabinet gave in-principle approval on Thursday, directing officials to prepare a detailed project report.
Once completed, the stadium will be more than double the size of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which holds about 38,000 people.
Bengaluru to Build India’s Second-Largest Cricket Stadium with 80,000 Seats in Anekal

Project Details
The new complex will be built on Karnataka Housing Board land at Suryanagar Fourth Stage Extension in Indlavadi village.
Law Minister H.K. Patil confirmed the approval and said a feasibility study will be conducted before construction begins.
Key Features:
- Seating capacity: 80,000
- Total cost: ₹2,350 crore ($267 million)
- Land area: 75 acres in Anekal
- 24 indoor and outdoor sports facilities
- 3,000-seat auditorium
- Athlete hostels and fitness centers
Multi-Sport Vision
Housing Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan said the venue will become “one of the largest sports complexes in the country.”
The project goes beyond cricket to include training facilities for various sports, making it a hub for athletes across Karnataka.
It will host IPL matches, international tournaments, and grassroots development programs.
The stadium will also be used for concerts, exhibitions, and cultural events throughout the year.
Economic Impact
The project is expected to boost development in Anekal and the surrounding areas.
Improvements in roads, transport, water supply, and power infrastructure will support both the stadium and local communities.
Tourism, hospitality, and real estate sectors are likely to benefit as the area becomes an events destination.
The government sees this as a way to spread sports infrastructure beyond central Bengaluru.
Third International Venue
Once operational, Anekal will join Mysuru and Tumakuru as Karnataka’s third international cricket venue.
This will reduce pressure on the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium while giving more regions access to world-class facilities.
The detailed project report will cover construction timelines, safety measures, environmental impact, and revenue projections.
Karnataka aims to position itself as a major player in both cricket and multi-sport events with this ambitious project.
